Melissa’s Living Legacy Teen Cancer Foundation is a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that seeks to improved the quality of life for all impacted by adolescent cancer – teens with cancer, their families, friends, and healthcare providers.

Melissa’s Living Legacy is inspired by the life of Melissa Sengbusch who died in June, 2000 at age 19 of acute myeloid leukemia. Just days before she died, Melissa asked her mother, Lauren Spiker, to use what she had learned from her daughter’s experience to “make a difference – to make things better.” Melissa’s last request became her living legacy for all other teens facing a cancer diagnosis.

Today, the grassroots organization established by Lauren in honor of her daughter has become an internationally known and respected provider of age-appropriate resources and support for teens with cancer and their families. The organization’s “Teens Living with Cancer” program includes peer-mentoring, social and support activities, and vital connections for teens and families in the Greater Rochester area.
